ANFPP's Melissa Kungul honoured with Student of the Year Award

Top End Health Services Aboriginal Family Partnership Worker Melissa Kungul was recently named as the recipient of the Student of the Year by the NT Government's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker and Practitioner Excellence Awards.

The award recognises the role that Aboriginal Health Workers and Aboriginal Health Practitioners play in helping to close the health gap by serving as the essential conduit between traditional and western health services. The awards are an opportunity to showcase outstanding members of these professional groups and acknowledge their significant contribution to families, communities and the healthcare system in the Northern Territory.

Melissa, who hails from the Wadeye community, has been working with the Australian Nurse-Family Partnership Program
team for the last two years, where she works with young mums to support them with their newborn babies. Melissa is currently completing her qualifications to the Certificate Two in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care and she hopes to follow in the footsteps of her mother, who herself had previously worked as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner and was on hand to proudly witness this joyous achievement.

The ANFPP continues to support Melissa in pursuing her educational journey and looks forward to her continued growth within the ANFPP program.
