Shanina Working in her Kitchen

Deadly Denella

by Robyn Enever, Nurse Home Visitor,

Central Australian Aboriginal Congress, Alice Springs

An experienced midwife, Denella Hampton (known as Nella) joined the Congress Australian Nurse-Family Partnerships Program (ANFPP) team in 2020, bringing with her a raft of skills and a happy, passionate and trusting personality.

Nella has a connection to South Australia with the Nukunu and Gokatha people on her Dad’s side.

Nella’s great strengths, which sit so naturally in this role of Nurse Home Visitor, include having an open mind and the ability to build strong, trusting, healthy relationships.

Her great loves include the outdoors, camping, gardening, music, family time and watching her sons play sport.

Nella takes an early-bird-catches-the-worm approach to life, rising well before the sun to set herself up for the day ahead, watering her garden and spending time with her fur baby, before setting her boys up for their day.

Nella holds great admiration for all single working mums, especially her own mum, who at times filled the role of both mother and father, raising a strong, respectful family.

As a young girl, Nella dreamed of being a flight attendant, while her first job saw her working as a shop assistant. ANFPP are pretty glad she flew down the path of midwifery.

If she wasn’t here with us though, you would find Nella cruising around Australia in a decked out Kombi Van!

Nella is driven and passionate, holding a commitment to such causes as Diabetes Australia, Beyond Blue, The Cancer Council and The Smith Family.

Nella’s positive outlook is underpinned by her belief that there is always something to be grateful for and that “life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about learning to dance in the rain”.

Nella has a goal to quit smoking over the next twelve months.

We’ve no doubt she will add that to her list of accomplishments, her proudest of which include her sons and completing her Bachelor of Midwifery.

WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU.
