The ANFPP team in Winnunga Nimmityjah, Canberra have started running a mum and bub group where clients can get together regularly to make friends and have fun.

Nurse Supervisor, Lauren Burnley says they held their first session in May 2021 and continued every month until COVID lockdowns meant they had to temporarily stop.

The first session was on self-care says Lauren.

“We had a chat about the importance and fun ways to help promote self-care.

“The mums loved it and the little one especially loved the soap-bubbles in her self-care pack.

“It was a beautiful way of bringing the mums together to meet each other in a setting we hope will be relaxing and fun.

Mums in the group came up with some deadly ideas on how we can take care of ourselves.

“We also got some great ideas from the mums for future sessions.”

Winnunga ANFPP have since had groups sessions covering topics like adjusting to parenthood, the importance of reading to bub and how it creates bonding, and age-appropriate play.

Ashleigh, a recent graduate, says her twins Ruth and Amelia were very happy with all the books in the 'importance of reading' groups.

Lauren says they hope to start the sessions again soon as they were so popular with the mums.
