A Decade of the Australian Nurse-Family Partnership Program
This year marked the 10-year anniversary of the program's inception in Australia. It was fitting that this year’s national conference was held where the program was launched in 2009, on the lands of the Arrernte people in Mparntwe (Alice Springs).

The 2019 ANFPP National Conference was held from 23–25 July at the Alice Springs Convention Centre and co-hosted by the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress. The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Vision and Voice: A decade of ANFPP working together for the future’ and linked to this year’s NAIDOC theme of ‘Voice, Treaty and Truth.’
The conference was attended by CEOs, Program Managers, Nurse Supervisors, Nurses, Midwives and Family Partnership Workers. We were also privileged to welcome representatives from the Department of Health including Assistant Secretary Dr Lucas De Toca, Director Nick Pasqual, and Nicola Childs and Sam Lequaietermaine. The Nurse-Family Partnership International consultant Gail Radford-Trotter travelled all the way from Glasgow to present. Dr Mark Wenitong spoke about the generational influences on early childhood epigenetics. In a video presentation, Professor David Olds congratulated everyone on 10 years of the program in Australia.
Donna Ah Chee, CEO of the Central Aboriginal Congress Aboriginal Corporation, opened the conference with a powerful speech outlining the history of the program. Donna’s speech discussed the role of advocacy from Aboriginal community-controlled health services and the inclusion of Aboriginal Family Partnership Workers from program inception to ensure cultural safety.

As the primary focus of the conference, all 13 sites showcased the great work that they are doing through presentations that delivered moving and inspirational stories.

The conference also provided opportunities for professional development through concurrent sessions that focused on topics such as vicarious trauma, team dynamics and culture.
